As with fashion, trends in hair and beauty are cyclical, but for some reason, the spring hair trend for super bright shades seems so much bigger than the usual seasonal colour change. Karen Brown, co-owner of Edinburgh-based salon Hair by JFK, talks us through this new desire for full-on, vibrant colour.
"This trend started with the likes of Katy Perry and Kelly Osborne. Both have been wearing bold blue and purple shades - the perfect look for someone wanting a break from the norm. Katy's block colour really brings out her eyes and suits her fun, quirky personality. It's a real statement look, but it does require a certain amount of confidence if you're thinking of taking the plunge.
"Those who don't want to commit to a full head of such a bright colour should take note from Jessie J, who has been adding vivid flashes of purple, and more recently golden blonde, to the tips of her hair. You can go for an even more toned down look, like Caroline Flack, who has lightened her tips one shade lighter than her natural colour.
"Another subtle way to wear colour is to choose a pastel shade over a bright. Ash, violet and pink are really popular tones, and have been seen on January Jones and Kimberley Wyatt. It's a great way to add an edge to your everyday look."
So, are you ready to play?
